The Quantum Hall Effect in Graphene

Paolo Cea2011-01-29arXiv (Cornell University)

We investigate the quantum Hall effect in graphene. We argue that in graphene in presence of an external magnetic field there is dynamical generation of mass by a rearrangement of the Dirac sea. We show that the mechanism breaks the lattice valley degeneracy only for the $n=0$ Landau levels and leads to the new observ…

Bubble-assisted Assembly of Nanocrystals into Hierarchical Structures

Chaoquan Hu2011-01-29Chemistry Letters

Abstract Alkaline-earth carbonates (M = Ca, Sr, and Ba) with delicate hierarchical structures were prepared via self-assembly of nanocrystals in solution without using any surfactant at room temperature. The CO2 generated during the coprecipitation is believed to play an important role in the formation of these struct…

As is well known, the design of coastal or offshore structures whether a ship, wave energy device or other fixed or floating structure, needs to consider its operation in a very hostile environment, including heavy storms. For example, an extremely high or steep wave impact on the bow or stern of a moored FPSO may res…

Enhanced SPR sensing based on micro-patterned thin films

Ludovic S. Live、Julien Breault-Turcot、Kim-Ly Nguyen 等 4 位作者2011-01-29Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

Micro-patterned thin films interrogated in the Kretschmann configuration of SPR could extend the detection range to lower concentrations and small biomolecules due to a greater sensitivity. This was achieved with the same instrumentation and analysis methodologies developed for SPR with continuous films. The plasmonic…
