Application of Dissipative Particle Dynamics to Materials Physics Problems in Polymer and Surfactant Science

Massimo G. Noro、Frederico Meneghini、Patrick B. Warren2003-08-17ACS symposium series

The basic dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) method is described, and a useful extension to allow many-body interactions is detailed. The application of DPD to problems in materials physics is discussed for polymers, surfactants and self-assembling systems.

Effect of Surface Confinement on Chain Relaxation of Entangled cis-Polyisoprene

Qiang Zhang、Lynden A. Archer2003-08-16Langmuir

Normal-mode relaxation of entangled cis -polyisoprene (PI) confined in porous glass was studied using broadband dielectric spectroscopy. In our designed model systems, geometric confinement effects are much weaker than surface adsorption effects, allowing relaxation dynamics of polymer chains at the surface to be dete…

Mantana Kanchanasopa、Evangelos Manias、James Runt2003-08-16Biomacromolecules

Tapping mode atomic force microscopy was used to investigate the lamellar morphology of poly(l-lactide) and two poly(l-lactide-co-meso-lactide) random copolymers containing 3% and 6% meso-lactide. Samples were isothermally crystallized at selected temperatures, and qualitative and quantitative analyses of lamellar str…

Segmental Dynamics in Miscible Polymer Blends: Modeling the Combined Effects of Chain Connectivity and Concentration Fluctuations

Eric Leroy、Ángel Alegría、Juan Colmenero2003-08-16Macromolecules

The dynamic heterogeneity of the segmental dynamics in miscible polymer blends has been alternatively interpreted in terms of either chain connectivity effects or thermal concentration fluctuations. Taking into account that both phenomena seem to be relevant, in this work we propose a minimal model which combines thes…

The structures, energies, and fragmentation stabilities of silicon oxide clusters Si m O n, with m = 1−5, n = 1, 2 m + 1, are studied systematically by ab initio calculations. New structures for nine clusters are found to be energetically more favorable than previously proposed structures. Using the ground state struc…

W. H. Yu、E. T. Kang、K. G. Neoh 等 4 位作者2003-08-16The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Controlled grafting of well-defined polymer brushes on the hydrogen-terminated Si(100) substrates (the Si−H substrate) was carried out via the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Surface initiators were immobilized on the Si−H substrates in three consecutive steps: (i) coupling of an ω-unsat…

Frequency Dependence of Superconducting Cavity Q and Magnetic Breakdown Field

Mario Rabinowitz2003-08-16arXiv

A theoretical explanation is given to account for the unexpected observation that L- and S-band Nb superconducting cavities were found to have lower Q and lower magnetic breakdown field than those of the higher X-band frequencies. Both effects can be related to the trapping of magnetic flux in the cavity walls. The fr…

Kinetic Self-Assembly of Metals on Co-polymer Templates

Ajay Gopinathan2003-08-16arXiv

In this work we seek to understand some of the fundamental processes that govern self-assembly at the nanoscale in the context of the formation of metallic structures on patterned co-polymer templates. To this end we focus on the experiments conducted by Lopes {\it et al} (Nature, 2001), where morphologies resulting f…

Wetting on Hydrophobic Rough Surfaces: To Be Heterogeneous or Not To Be?

Abraham Marmur2003-08-16OpenAlex

Equilibrium wetting on rough surfaces is discussed in terms of the “competition” between complete liquid penetration into the roughness grooves and entrapment of air bubbles inside the grooves underneath the liquid. The former is the homogeneous wetting regime, usually described by the Wenzel equation. The latter is t…
