Multijunction carbon nanotube network

Jyh‐Ming Ting、Chi-Chih Chang2002-01-14Applied Physics Letters

Branching structure in carbon nanotubes (CNT) are of great importance in developing CNT-based mechanical or electrical applications. For this purpose, CNTs exhibiting two-dimensional and three-dimensional junctions are being sought. Among them, only two-dimensional branching structures of Y-junction and T-junction CNT…

Zheng‐Hong Lu、D. Grozea2002-01-14Applied Physics Letters

Based on epitaxial layer transfer silicon on insulator wafers, crystalline Si/SiO2 quantum wells have been made. The chemical composition of the quantum wells was studied by Auger electron spectroscopy depth profile. The crystalline structure of the well was confirmed by x-ray photoelectron diffraction. Band-edge shif…

Ab initiodetermination of the phonon deformation potentials of graphene

C. Thomsen、Stephanie Reich、Pablo Ordejón2002-01-14Physical review. B, Condensed matter

We calculated with ab initio methods the in-plane phonon deformation potentials of a graphite sheet. The two-dimensional Gr\"uneisen parameter is found to be $\ensuremath{\gamma}=2.0$ and the shear potential $(\mathrm{SDP})=0.66.$ The two values agree well with experimental results on graphite and on carbon nanotubes.

Hydrogen in mechanically prepared nanostructured h-BN: a critical comparison with that in nanostructured graphite

Ping Wang、Shin‐ichi Orimo、T. Matsushima 等 5 位作者2002-01-14Applied Physics Letters

Nanostructured h-BN was prepared by mechanical milling under hydrogen atmosphere. The hydrogen concentration reaches up to 2.6 mass% after milling for 80 h, and this value corresponds to ca. 35% of that of nanostructured graphite as was previously reported. In addition to the hydrogen desorption starting at about 570…

Lead oxide nanobelts and phase transformation induced by electron beam irradiation

Zhengwei Pan、Z. R. Dai、Zhong Lin Wang2002-01-14Applied Physics Letters

β- PbO 2 nanobelts, with a rectangular cross section, a typical length of 10–200 μm, a width of 50–300 nm, and a width-to-thickness ratio of 5–10, have been successfully synthesized by simple elevated evaporation of commercial PbO powders at high temperature. The PbO2 nanobelts are enclosed by top surfaces ±(201) and…

Spin polarization contrast observed in GaAs by force-detected nuclear magnetic resonance

Kent R. Thurber、Lee E. Harrell、Raul Fainchtein 等 4 位作者2002-01-14arXiv

We applied the recently developed technique of force-detected nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to observe 71Ga, 69Ga, and 75As in GaAs. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation time is 21$\pm$5 min for 69Ga at $\sim 5$ K and 4.6 Tesla. We have exploited this long relaxation time to first create and then observe spatially v…

Experimental study of the Fluctuation-Dissipation-Relation during an aging process

Ludovic Bellon、Sergio Ciliberto2002-01-14arXiv

The validity of fluctuation dissipation relations in an aging system is studied in a colloidal glass during the transition from a fluid-like to a solid-like state. The evolution of the rheological and electrical properties is analyzed in the range $1Hz - 40Hz$. It is found that at the beginning of the transition the f…

Cell adhesion peptides alter smooth muscle cell adhesion, proliferation, migration, and matrix protein synthesis on modified surfaces and in polymer scaffolds

Brenda K. Mann、Jennifer L. West2002-01-14OpenAlex

The effects of cell adhesion peptides (RGDS, KQAGDV, VAPG) on vascular smooth muscle cells grown on modified surfaces and in tissue-engineering scaffolds were examined. Cells were more strongly adhered to surfaces modified with adhesive ligands than to control surfaces (no ligand or a nonadhesive ligand). Cell migrati…

Behind the weak excitonic emission of ZnO quantum dots: ZnO/Zn(OH)2 core-shell structure

Huijuan Zhou、H. Alves、D.M. Hofmann 等 7 位作者2002-01-14OpenAlex

The structure of ZnO quantum dots prepared via the wet chemical method was studied. By introducing an annealing treatment (150 °C–500 °C), we also investigated the effect of the change in the structure of the dots on their luminescence properties. Our studies revealed that the surface of the as-prepared dots is passiv…

Victor V. Tcherdyntsev、S.D. Kaloshkin、Alexey I. Salimon 等 10 位作者2002-01-12Materials and Manufacturing Processes

Al–Cu–Fe alloys were prepared from elemental powders in a high-energy planetary ball mill. A sequence of solid state reactions resulting in quasicrystal (QC) phase formation takes place during heating of the as-milled powder. These reactions were studied by both differential scanning calorimetry and x-ray diffraction…

Control of Particle Size in the Preparation of Colloidal Gold

Sandra M. Saraiva、José Farias de Oliveira2002-01-12Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology

The preparation of colloidal gold is a subject of practical interest in many technological fields. It is generally accomplished by reduction of HAuCl4 solution with sodium citrate which is known to be influenced by several factors such as temperature and reactants concentration. In the course of the present investigat…
