Determination of the crystal structure of three organic compounds by X-ray diffraction

Roger M. Schaffrin2011-01-01cIRcle (University of British Columbia)

The crystal structure of dibenzothiophene has been determined by X-ray diffraction. Mo-Kα [subscript omitted] scintillation counter data were used for this analysis; the sulfur atom position was determined by means of a Patterson function; the carbon atoms were located from a Fourier synthesis, and the hydrogen atoms,…

ENHANCING THE SOFT TISSUE SEAL AROUND TRANSCUTANEOUS IMPLANTS USING A MODIFIED SILANISED TITANIUM ALLOY SURFACE

Mukai Chimutengwende-Gordon、Catherine Pendegrass、Gordon Blunn2011-01-01Orthopaedic Proceedings

Background: Osseointegrated amputation prostheses avoid soft tissue complications associated with traditional socket prostheses. Forces are transmitted directly to the skeleton resulting in improved function. However, approximately 50% of transcutaneous implants become infected due to the lack of a successful skin-imp…

Abstract: A comparison of the behaviour of SiO2 and Al2O3 during dissolution of quartz and sapphire in a CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 melt at 1600 °C and 1.5 GPa

Kim B. Klausen、Cliff S. J. Shaw2011-01-01OpenAlex

Since silicon and aluminium are considered to be network forming cations in silicate melts, their addition should result in increased melt polymerization and therefore higher viscosity. The behaviour of quartz and sapphire dissolving in a melt was examined in the CAS system (CaO = 32.50, Al2O3 = 17.50, and SiO2 = 50.0…

The incorporation of small cations in hydroxyapatite : synthesis, crystal chemistry and functionality

Hou Ran Low2011-01-01OpenAlex

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is an important oxide in biotechnology, and also holds promise as a heterogeneous catalyst. Its ideal composition is [(CaF4)(CaT6)(PO4)6(OH)2] where an adaptable framework (F) structure creates one-dimensional tunnels (T) that provide multiple ionic acceptor sites (CAF/CAT/P/OH) which can be adjus…

The hydroformylation of 3,4-Di-O-acetyl-D-xylal

John D. Black2011-01-01cIRcle (University of British Columbia)

3,4-Di-0-acetyl-D-xylal was treated in the presence of dicobalt octacarbonyl with carbon monoxide and hydrogen at elevated temperatures and pressures. From deacetylation of the reaction products, 1-∝(or β)-hydroxymethyl-2-hydro-D-xylal and l-∝(or β)-formyl-2-hydro-D-xylal were obtained; that is, a hydroxymethyl group…

Effect of Balls Size and Fiber Location inside the Ball on Usher Fibers Length

Hashim Ali Salem、Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim Algalib2011-01-01OpenAlex

ABSTRACT: The length of the Usher fibres is a effected by many factors particularly the fibre maturity, green ball size and the location in side the ball where the fibre was picked. The maturity of the fibres is determined by the colour of the seeds. Dark brown colour indicates that the fibre is fully mature and it's…

Topological Insulators: Introduction

Shuichi Murakami2011-01-01Hyomen Kagaku

Topological insulators are insulating in the bulk, while there are topologically protected edge/surface states. These edge/surface states are different from conventional edge/surface states, and show various novel properties. We briefly outline basic properties of topological insulators, both in 2D and 3D.
