Synthesis, Characterization, and Physicochemical Properties of Manganese(III) and Manganese(V)−Oxo Corrolazines

David E. Lansky、Beaven S. Mandimutsira、Bobby Ramdhanie 等 14 位作者2005-05-24Inorganic Chemistry

The structural and physicochemical properties of the manganese-corrolazine (Cz) complexes (TBP8Cz)Mn(V)O (1) and (TBP8Cz)Mn(III) (2) (TBP = p-tert-butylphenyl) have been determined. Recrystallization of 2 from toluene/MeOH resulted in the crystal structure of (TBP8Cz)Mn(III)(CH3OH) (2 x MeOH). The packing diagram of 2…

Morphologically Templated Growth of Aligned Spinel CoFe2O4 Nanorods

Shengbai Zhang、Adam J. Rondinone、J. X. Ma 等 5 位作者2005-05-24Advanced Materials

Uniaxially aligned CoFe2O4 nanorods (see Figure) are obtained by coprecipitation of Co2+, Fe2+, and C2O42– ions in a microemulsion solution, and subsequent high-temperature decomposition of CoFe2(C2O4)3. Each nanorod is made up of a “tectonic” assembly of CoFe2O4 nanocrystals. Magnetization of such CoFe2O4 materials m…

Hansu Birol、Dragan Damjanović、N. Setter2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The processing and characterization of electrical properties of potassium niobate ceramic, KNbO 3 (KN) have been studied. The difficulty of obtaining dense samples by conventional methods limits the knowledge on electrical properties of this material. In this paper, a complete route for processing of KN with density o…

For the first time, polarized-light-emitting quantum-rod diodes have been successfully produced, using thin layers of quantum rods oriented by a rubbing technique. Diode emission at 620 nm with a luminance efficiency of 0.65 Cd A–1 and an external quantum efficiency of 0.49 % is obtained (see Figure and inside cover).

Moon‐Deock Kim、Y. Chen、Yi Liu 等 4 位作者2005-05-24Advanced Materials

nanocrystals coated with stearate groups are successfully converted to dendron-coated nanocrystals (dendron-nanocrystals). Poly(ethylene glycol) oligomers are used as major terminal groups for the dendron ligands, which afford excellent dispersibility of the dendron-nanocrystals in a broad spectrum of solvents, rangin…

Matthew P. Aldred、Adam E. A. Contoret、S. R. Farrar 等 8 位作者2005-05-24Advanced Materials

Blue, green, and red polymerizable light-emitting liquid crystals have been patterned photolithographically in a full-color liquid-crystal electroluminescent display. A new hole-transporting photoalignment copolymer is also reported and the spatial patterning of the polarization direction of emission is demonstrated.

Non-ionic contributions to the electric-field gradient at $^{181}$Ta and $^{111}$Cd impurity sites in R$_2$O$_3$ (R= Sc, In, Lu, Yb, Tm, Er, Y, Ho, Dy, Gd, Eu, Sm) bixbyites

Leonardo A. Errico、Mario Rentería、Aníbal G. Bibiloni 等 4 位作者2005-05-24arXiv

The time-differential perturbed-angular-correlation (TDPAC) technique was applied to the study of the internal electric-field gradient (EFG) in Eu- and Ho-sesquioxides in their cubic bixbyite phases. The results, as well as previous characterizations of the EFG at $^{181}$Ta sites in oxides with the bixbyite structure…

1,4-Di(1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)butane as Building Block for the Preparation of the Iron(II) Spin-Crossover 2D Coordination Polymer

Robert Bronisz2005-05-24Inorganic Chemistry

The novel bidentate ligand 1,4-di(1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)butane (bbtr) reacts with Fe(ClO4)2 x 6H2O to form the 2D coordination polymer with (3,6) network topology. The {[Fe(bbtr)3](ClO4)2}infinity represents an example of spin-crossover material based on 1,2,3-triazole as donor group, and displays an abrupt spin transiti…

Microstructural Characterization of Commercial Hot‐Pressed Boron Carbide Ceramics

Mingwei Chen、James W. McCauley、Jerry C. LaSalvia 等 4 位作者2005-05-24Journal of the American Ceramic Society

Two commercial hot‐pressed boron carbide ceramics were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Atomic‐scale observations suggest that the grain boundaries of the two materials are free of grain‐boundary films. Two triple‐junction phases were found and characterized to be rhombohedral Fe 2 B 103 and orthorhom…

Two-Step Self-Assembly of Nanodisks into Plate-Built Cylinders through Oriented Aggregation

Yao Cheng、Yuansheng Wang、Yuanhui Zheng 等 4 位作者2005-05-24The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Oriented aggregation-based self-assembly of hexagonal LaF3 nanodisks with cavities into plate-built cylinders proceeding in acidic solution in the absence of any organic additive was disclosed. The self-assembly consists of two steps. First, the nanodisks sequentially aggregated together by coalescence mainly through…

Homogeneous, nanocrystalline powders of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) were prepared using a non-alkoxide sol−gel method. Monolithic gels, free of precipitation, were prepared by addition of propylene oxide to aqueous solutions of Zr 4+ and Y 3+ chlorides at room temperature. The gels were dried with supercritical C…

An Analysis of the Control and Operation of a Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell Power Plant in an Isolated System

Y.H. Li、S.S. Choi、Sumedha Rajakaruna2005-05-24IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion

The concept of a feasible operating area for a solid oxide fuel-cell power plant is introduced by establishing the relationship between the stack terminal voltage, fuel utilization, and stack current. The analysis shows that both the terminal voltage and the utilization factor cannot be kept constant simultaneously wh…

A simple model for $f\to d$ transition of heavy lanthanide and actinide ions in crystals

Chang-Kui Duan、Michael F. Reid、Gang Ruan2005-05-24arXiv

Solid State Chem. {\bf 171}, 299 (2003)] has been very useful in interpreting the $f\to d$ absorption, emission and nonradiative relaxation of light lanthanide ions in crystals. However, based on the assumption that the $f^{…

Proximity effects in superconductor-ferromagnet heterostructures

A. I. Buzdin2005-05-24arXiv

The very special characteristic of the proximity effect in superconductor-ferromagnet systems is the damped oscillatory behavior of the Cooper pair wave function in a ferromagnet. In some sense, this is analogous to the inhomogeneous superconductivity, predicted long time ago by Larkin and Ovchinnikov (1964), and Fuld…
