Synthesis of Uniform CoTe and NiTe Semiconductor Nanocluster Wires through a Novel Coreduction Method

Qing Peng、Yajie Dong、Yadong Li2003-03-14Inorganic Chemistry

A novel coreduction method was developed to synthesize uniform one-dimensional CoTe and NiTe nanocluster wires. In the synthesis, soluble Na(2)TeO(3) was used to supply a highly reactive Te source and N(2)H(4).H(2)O was used both as reducing agent and as complexing agent. The as-prepared samples were characterized by…

Microscopic Approach to the Pseudo-Spin-1/2 Hamiltonian for Kramers Doublets in Exchange Coupled Co(II) Pairs

Andrei V. Palii、Boris Tsukerblat、Eugenio Coronado 等 5 位作者2003-03-14Inorganic Chemistry

The microscopic theory of the magnetically anisotropic effective pseudo-spin-(1)/(2) Hamiltonian for a pair of Co(2+) ions is reported. In the framework of the second-order perturbation approach, the analytical expressions are found for the components of the tensor of the exchange interaction, g-tensor, and the factor…

Orbital Hybridization and Charge Transfer in Carbon Nanopeapods

Youngmi Cho、Seungwu Han、Gunn Kim 等 5 位作者2003-03-14Physical Review Letters

We investigate the electronic structure of the fullerenes encapsulated inside carbon nanotubes, the so-called nanopeapods, using the first-principles study. The orbital hybridization of LUMO+1 (the state above the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) of C60, rather than LUMO as previously proposed, with the nanotube s…

B. N. Khare、M. Meyyappan、Marla H. Moore 等 6 位作者2003-03-14Nano Letters

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were irradiated with 1 MeV protons and the samples were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV−vis−NIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and secondary ion mass spectrometry. There is clear evidence that the irradiated sample contains C−H bonds.

Effect of Oxidation Rate on Cross-Linking of Mussel Adhesive Proteins

Sander Haemers、Ger J. M. Koper、G. Frens2003-03-14Biomacromolecules

The cross-linking behavior of mussel adhesive protein Mefp-1 was studied by measuring the rate of aggregation of the protein by photon correlation spectroscopy. To be able to calculate the aggregation numbers, the hydrodynamic radius of monomer Mefp-1 (10 nm) was determined under reducing conditions. The aggregation i…

It is not easy to understand how the electron microscopes and electron microscope techniques that we know today developed from the primitive ideas of the first microscopists of the 1930s. Newcomers to the subject in particular, their time almost fully occupied with grasping practical methods and modern computing techn…

Kinetics of Salt-Induced Annealing of a Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Film Morphology

Richard McAloney、V. V. Dudnik、M. Cynthia Goh2003-03-14Langmuir

The layer-by-layer (LBL) adsorption of polyelectrolytes onto charged surfaces from aqueous solutions produces multilayered surface structures. A multilayer film of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride (PDDA) and polystyrenesulfonic acid, sodium salt (PSS), prepared using 1.0 M NaCl in the polymer solutions, has a verm…

Resonance Raman Spectra of Carbon Nanotubes by Cross-Polarized Light

Ado Jório、M. A. Pimenta、A. G. Souza Filho 等 10 位作者2003-03-14Physical Review Letters

Resonance Raman studies on single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) show that resonance with cross polarized light, i.e., with the E(mu,mu+/-1) van Hove singularities in the joint density of states needs to be taken into account when analyzing the Raman and optical absorption spectra from isolated SWNTs. This study is per…

Raman Spectroscopic Study of Pressure Effects on the Spin-Crossover Coordination Polymers Fe(Pyrazine)[M(CN)4]·2H2O (M = Ni, Pd, Pt). First Observation of a Piezo-Hysteresis Loop at Room Temperature

Gábor Molnár、V. Niel、José-A. Real 等 6 位作者2003-03-14The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The spin state of a series of cyanide-bridged iron(II) spin-crossover coordination polymers of formula Fe(pyrazine)[M(CN) 4 ]·2H 2 O (M = Ni, Pd, or Pt) have been studied by recording their solid-state Raman spectra at room temperature as a function of pressure. For the first time, a reproducible piezo-hysteresis loop…

One-Pot Preparation of Subnanometer-Sized Gold Clusters via Reduction and Stabilization by meso-2,3-Dimercaptosuccinic Acid

Yuichi Negishi、Tatsuya Tsukuda2003-03-14Journal of the American Chemical Society

We report herein a simple method to prepare subnanometer-sized gold clusters by the reactions between hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (HAuCl4) and meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA; HO2CCH(SH)CH(SH)CO2H) in water. It is demonstrated that DMSA molecules efficiently reduce the Au(III) species and stabilize the resultant…

We present x-ray reflectivity and diffuse scattering measurements from the liquid surface of pure potassium. They strongly suggest the existence of atomic layering at the free surface of a pure liquid metal with low surface tension. Prior to this study, layering was observed only for metals like Ga, In, and Hg, the su…

Self-interaction-corrected pseudopotential scheme for magnetic and strongly-correlated systems

Alessio Filippetti、Nicola A. Spaldin2003-03-14Physical review. B, Condensed matter

Local-spin-density-functional (LSDA) calculations may be affected by severe errors when applied to the study of magnetic and strongly correlated materials. Some of these faults can be traced back to the presence of the spurious self-interaction in the density functional. Since the application of a fully self-consisten…
