Modeling and Understanding Smectic-Phase Formation in Binary Mixtures of Rodlike Polysilanes: Comparison of Onsager Theory and Experiment

Szabolcs Varga、E. Velasco2010-03-31Macromolecules

We study a binary mixture of short and long parallel hard rods in the smectic A phase to understand the role of length ratio (weight ratio) in the formation of three different types of ordering which were observed in binary mixtures of helical polysilanes. Using Onsager’s second virial theory of parallel hard rods, an…

Finite element analysis of thermal stresses in functionally graded cemented carbides

Zhenning Huang、Yuehui He、P. L. Li2010-03-31Powder Metallurgy

In this study, finite element method and X-ray diffraction measurement were used to determine the thermal stress distribution of functionally graded WC–Co composites. The calculated results show that high stress concentration occurs in the cobalt gradient zone, tensile stress pile-up occurs in the cobalt rich zone and…

The effective differential cross section for elastic scattering of electrons by atoms and its use for Monte Carlo simulation of electron passage through matter

E. G. Sheĭkin2010-03-31Physica Scripta

The effective differential cross section (DCS) for elastic scattering of electrons by atoms is proposed that reproduces known energy dependences for the first and second transport cross sections but provides a total elastic cross section that is significantly small compared with the known energy dependences. The numbe…

Novel Cruciform Structures as Model Compounds for Coordination Induced Single Molecule Switches

Sergio Grunder、R. Huber、Songmei Wu 等 6 位作者2010-03-31CHIMIA International Journal for Chemistry

We have synthesized various molecular cruciforms consisting of two different crossing n-systems and comprising crosswise arranged thiol- and pyridine-anchor groups. With these model compounds we strive towards the investigation of a new switching concept based on the potential dependent coordination of pyridines to go…

Dong-Woo Kang、Sung-Chul Go、Sung-Hong Won 等 5 位作者2010-03-31Journal of Magnetics

The multi-degrees of freedom surface permanent-magnet motor (Multi-D.O.F. SPM) has several degrees of freedom operations that are defined as the "roll", "yaw", and "pitch". Normally, the torque that is generated to rotate a rotor includes ripples. The analysis of the torque ripples is important for improving motor per…
