Thermal Bonding of Polypropylene Fibers

S. B. Warner1989-03-01Textile Research Journal

The thermomechanical processes that occur during thermal bonding of isotactic polypropylene are discussed. Each process is described and the magnitude of each effect estimated. The results suggest that flow is important to the formation of a good bond. Flow is facilitated by line pressure and is an important means of…

Thermal Expansion of Tungsten Carbide at Low Temperature

A.D. Krawitz、D. G. Reichel、R. L. Hitterman1989-03-01Journal of the American Ceramic Society

The thermal expansion of WC from 20 to 900 K was measured in the a and c axial directions using high‐resolution neutron powder diffraction. Third‐order polynomials have been calculated from the expansion curves. The results complement and are compared with prior data in the 293 to 900 K region.

Microstructure and domain effects in ferroelectric ceramics

G. Arlt1989-03-01Ferroelectrics

In tetragonally distorted ferroelectric ceramics a regular domain pattern develops, which allows the grain to keep its shape according to its clamping condition. In coarse grained ceramic the adjustment of the shape is possible in three dimensions, in fine grained ceramic and in thin films a two dimensional adjustment…

Enhanced Infrared ATR Spectra of O -, m -, and p -Nitrobenzoic Acid with Ag Films

Simona Bǎdilescu、P. V. Ashrit、Vo‐Van Truong 等 4 位作者1989-03-01Applied Spectroscopy

The dependence of enhancement of the infrared bands by thin Ag films on the molecular structure of the organic compound was investigated. A different enhancement behavior for the three isomers—ortho-, meta-, and paranitrobenzoic acids—was observed and accounted for by structural features. The presence of the ionized s…

SYNTHESIS AND PHOTOCYTOTOXICITY OF SOME NEW SUBSTITUTED PHTHALOCYANINES

C. C. LEZNOFF、Steve Vigh、Polina I. Svirskaya 等 7 位作者1989-03-01Photochemistry and Photobiology

Some new, ring-substituted phthalocyanines have been synthesized and underwent preliminary testing for photodynamic activity using the colony forming ability of Chinese hamster cells in culture as an endpoint. Using 4-(3-N,N-diethylaminopropyl)phthalonitrile as a precursor, the previously unknown metal-free 2,9,16,23-…

Effects of a depth-dependent specimen potential on x-ray photoelectron spectroscopic data

Woon‐Ming Lau1989-03-01Journal of Applied Physics

Effects of a depth-dependent specimen potential on x-ray photoelectron spectroscopic data were analyzed using both numerical simulation and experimental spectral data. The analysis shows that when the potential gradient near the specimen surface is larger than 0.1 V/nm, it will cause significant broadening of the phot…

Factors affecting zero point of charge (zpc) of variable charge soils

Katsutoshi Sakurai、Yohichi Ohdate、Kazutake Kyuma1989-03-01Soil Science & Plant Nutrition

The factors which determine or exert an influence on the zero point of charge (ZPC) of soils were examined, using 26 variable charge soils from Thailand and Japan. ZPC was mainly correlated with amorphous A1 for the Japanese volcanic ash soils, and with crystalline Fe oxides for the Thai Oxisols and Ultisols. Besides,…

Sidewall Flow Instabilities in Liquid Metal MHD Flow Under Blanket Relevant Conditions

C. B. Reed、B.F. Picologlou1989-03-01Fusion Technology

A flow instability has been observed in a rectangular thin conducting wall duct in MHD experiments at ANL’s ALEX facility. It developed in a side layer jet attached to a side wall parallel to the applied B-field. The nature of the instability resembles very strongly that of a classic laminar instability in ordinary fl…
