最初に,ステンレス鋼の不働態皮膜の厚さ,組成,伝導形式,バンドギャップ,インピーダンス軌跡などに関する最近の成果を通覧し,皮膜の状態の電位による変化を明らかにする.ついで,不働態皮膜の厚さと組成を模擬した人工不働態皮膜の電気化学的性質について紹介し,この皮膜の電気化学的性質に基づいて不働態皮膜の塩化物孔食に対する防食能力について考察する.最後に,不働態皮膜を更に良く理解するために,幾つかの将来の課題を提案する.
