Grafting of sodium alginate with poly (N-isopropylacrylamide) chains. Study of the thermothickening behavior

Oana Nicoleta Ciocoiu2010-03-04Νημερτής

Designing new materials with improved or tailored properties is one of the main goals of the chemists. Two common ways are mainly used to get a material with improved or new properties: blending or chemical synthesis. Chemical synthesis is an unlimited method to get new substances with well-defined properties even it…

Nanocrystalline oxides prepared by mechanochemical reactions

Maksym Myndyk2010-03-04LeoPARD - TU Braunschweig Publications And Research Data

Due to their finite sizes, the surface and interior structures of nanoscale materials prepared by mechanochemical routes may have particular importance for their chemical and physical properties. The structure-property relationships in nanoscale materials is also an area where there is a large scope for further resear…

Persistent Spectral Hole-Burning in the R1 Line of Cr3+-Doped NaMg[Al(oxalate)3]·9(H2O/D2O) Induced by Resonant Energy Transfer

Mia Milos、Andreas Hauser2010-03-04The Journal of Physical Chemistry A

In the 3D network [Rh(bpy)(3)][NaCr(ox)(3)]ClO(4) (ox = oxalate, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) phonon-assisted as well as resonant energy migration within the R(1) line of the (4)A(2) --> (2)E transition of Cr(3+) has been identified. The latter is dominant below 4.2 K, and in a fluorescence line narrowing spectrum, it manif…

Amorphous selenium lateral Frisch photodetector and photomultiplier for high performance medical x-ray and gamma-ray imaging applications

Amir H. Goldan、K. Wang、F. Chen 等 4 位作者2010-03-04Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

We propose a new indirect x-ray and gamma-ray detector which is comprised of a scintillating crystal coupled with an amorphous selenium (a-Se) metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) photodetector. A lateral Frisch grid is embedded between the anode and the cathode to provide (1) unipolar charge sensing and (2) avalanche mult…

Removal of trapped charge in selenium detectors

Denny Lee、Andrew D. A. Maidment2010-03-04Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE

Flat panel selenium detectors (1) have been commercially available since 1998 (2). The MTF of these detectors can approach the theoretical SINC function for the pixel size (3). Detectors can be designed with selenium thickness suitable for absorption of the range of x-ray energy for the modality (4, 5). For higher ene…

Number of Compositions and Convolved Fibonacci numbers

Milan Janjić2010-03-04arXiv (Cornell University)

We consider two type of upper Hessenberg matrices which determinants are Fibonacci numbers. Calculating sums of principal minors of the fixed order of the first type leads us to convolved Fibonacci numbers. Some identities for these and for Fibonacci numbers are proved. We also show that numbers of compositions of a n…

Radioisotope techniques

R. J. Slater2010-03-04Cambridge University Press eBooks

WHY USE A RADIOISOTOPE? When researchers contemplate using a radioactive compound there are several things they have to consider. First and foremost, they must ask the questions: is a radioisotope necessary, is there another way to achieve our objectives? The reason for this is that radioisotope use is governed by ver…

Composite Fermions and Quantum Hall Stripes on the Topological Insulator Surface

Ying Ran、Hong Yao、Ashvin Vishwanath2010-03-04arXiv (Cornell University)

We study the problem of a single Dirac fermion in a quantizing orbital magnetic field, when the chemical potential is at the Dirac point. This can be realized on the surface of a topological insulator, such as Bi2Se3, tuned to neutrality. We study the effect of both long range Coulomb interactions (strength alpha=e^2/…

Sorption mechanisms of zinc in different clay minerals and soil systems as influenced by various natural ligands

Mohammed Hashem Stietiya2010-03-04OpenAlex

The bioavailability and fate of Zinc (Zn) in soils is influenced by reactions occurring at the water-mineral interface. Understanding Zn interaction with mineral surfaces is essential to the understanding of Zn fate and toxicity. In this study, adsorption experiments investigated the impact of ligands and pH on the ad…
