Long‐term retention of gadolinium in tissues from nephrogenic systemic fibrosis patient after multiple gadolinium‐enhanced MRI scans: case report and implications

Charu Thakral、Jihad Alhariri、Jerrold L. Abraham2007-07-01Contrast Media & Molecular Imaging

Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) is a painful and debilitating fibrosing disorder of the skin and systemic tissues. It is associated with exposure to Gd, used in MRIs and MRAs, in patients with renal insufficiency. We here present an illustrative example of a young patient who underwent multiple Gd-enhanced scans,…

Hydrogen Storage on Platinum Nanoparticles Doped on Superactivated Carbon

Yingwei Li、Ralph T. Yang2007-07-01The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

The equilibrium and kinetics of hydrogen storage on Pt nanoparticles doped on AX-21 superactivated carbon were studied. The Pt/AX-21 sample was prepared by ultrasound-assisted impregnation of H 2 PtCl 6 in a solution of acetone. The dispersion of platinum was determined by CO/H 2 chemisorption and high-resolution tran…

Niobium doped TiO2: Intrinsic transparent metallic anatase versus highly resistive rutile phase

S. X. Zhang、D. C. Kundaliya、Weiqiang Yu 等 9 位作者2007-07-01Journal of Applied Physics

We report on the structural, electrical, and optical properties of 5% niobium doped TiO2 thin films grown on various substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The epitaxial anatase Nb:TiO2 film on LaAlO3 is shown to be an intrinsic transparent metal and its metallic property arises from Nb substitution into Ti site as ev…

Rheology of multiwall carbon nanotube suspensions

Zhihang Fan、Suresh G. Advani2007-07-01Journal of Rheology

Carbon nanotubes have exhibited unusually large changes in selective physical and mechanical properties when added to polymers or polymer composites in small quantities. To understand their rheological behavior and processibility, we mixed multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) in epoxy and created suspensions of differe…

A New Battery/Ultracapacitor Energy Storage System Design and Its Motor Drive Integration for Hybrid Electric Vehicles

Shuai Lu、Keith Corzine、Mehdi Ferdowsi2007-07-01IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology

This paper proposes a new energy storage system (ESS) design, including both batteries and ultracapacitors (UCs) in hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and electric vehicle applications. The conventional designs require a DC-DC converter to interface the UC unit. Herein, the UC can be directly switched across the motor driv…

Water‐in‐oil Emulsions Stabilized by Hydrophobized Microfibrillated Cellulose

Martin Andresen、Per Stenius2007-07-01Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology

The properties of water‐in‐toluene emulsions stabilized solely by hydrophobized microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) were investigated. By varying the degree of surface substitution (DSS), the wettability of the MFC was altered. All emulsions prepared with MFC displayed excellent stability to coalescence. The stability to…

Hydrogen-doped In2O3 as High-mobility Transparent Conductive Oxide

Takashi Koida、Hiroyuki Fujiwara、Michio Kondo2007-07-01Japanese Journal of Applied Physics

We have developed hydrogen (H)-doped In 2 O 3 films on glass with high mobility and high near-infrared transparency by using sputtering process performed at room temperature, followed by post-annealing treatment at 200 °C. To incorporate H-donor into In 2 O 3 matrix, H 2 O vapor has been introduced into a chamber duri…

Synthesis of Normal and Inverted Gold−Silver Core−Shell Architectures in β-Cyclodextrin and Their Applications in SERS

Surojit Pande、Sujit Kumar Ghosh、Snigdhamayee Praharaj 等 9 位作者2007-07-01OpenAlex

Beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) in alkaline solution has been observed to produce mono- and bimetallic nanoparticles of silver and gold and to provide in-house stability to both types of particles. Thus, the weak reducing capability of the β-CD molecule (oxidation occurs at +1.33 V vs Ag/AgCl) and its unique kinetic control…

Strong broadband optical absorption in silicon nanowire films

Loucas Tsakalakos2007-07-01OpenAlex

The broadband optical absorption properties of silicon nanowire (SiNW) films fabricated on glass substrates by wet etching and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) have been measured and found to be higher than solid thin films of equivalent thickness. The observed behavior is adequately explained by light scattering and l…

Guoqing Zhang、Jianbin Chen、Sarah J. Payne 等 6 位作者2007-07-01OpenAlex

Boron difluoride compounds are light emitting materials with impressive optical properties. Though their strong one- and two-photon absorption and intense fluorescence are well-known and exploited in molecular probes, lasers, and photosensitizers, phosphorescence, in contrast, is typically observed only at low tempera…

First-Principles Study of the Oxygenation of Carbon Nanotubes and Boron Nitride Nanotubes

Xiang Xu、Hong Seok Kang2007-06-30Chemistry of Materials

Using the first-principles method, we investigated the molecular and electronic structures of oxygenized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs). This is done by considering (5,5) and (10,0) tubes, which have similar diameters. The reaction of CNTs with oxygen molecules is largely exothermic, parti…
