An analytical model is described for characterizing the deformation and failure behavior of the concrete in the process of penetration and perforation. According to the energy balance relationship crossing the wave front, the continuity of movement of the surface of projectile and the energy transfer, the scaling law…
The continuous cooling curves during melt-spinning process of typical Fe3B/Nd2Fe14B-type nancomposite permanent magnet alloys Nd4Fe77.5-xTxB18.5 where T is Cr or Cu were measured using the infrared imaging technique and a continuous cooling transformation (CCT) diagram was constructed. The CCT diagram suggested that t…
On the basis of the vector diffraction theory, the equation o f two_dimensional grating in arbitrary angle of incidence is given, the complet e analytical form of angular dispersion formula of two_dimensional grating is f irst ly deduced, and the concept of angular dispersion of diffractive polar angle (AD DPA)(the fi…
The Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley, built in 1863, was successfully recovered in August 2000 after nearly 140 years of immersion in the Atlantic Ocean. One of the most significant challenges faced in the Hunley's stabilization and conservation will be the effective removal of chloride from the corrosion products p…
The semiconducting properties of anodic passive films formed on polycrystalline copper in aqueous borax solutions, pH 9.2, are studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and voltammetry. The semiconducting nature of the cuprous passive layer is analysed in the potential region near de rest potential as…
The article presents a mathematical model and results of calculations of the processes of heat and mass transfer in a metal-hydride module intended for purification of hydrogen from admixtures. The model characteristics attributable to the small dimensions of solid phase particles and to the change in hydrogen concent…
Pretilt angle generation and liquid crystal (LC) aligning capabilities for a nematic (N) LC with obliquely polarized UV exposure on a homeotropic polyimide (PI) surface by an in-situ photoalignment method were studied. The high pretilt angle of 30θ for NLC with obliquely polarized UV exposure on the PI surface for 20…
The new oxide K0.75Ba0.25Fe1.25Ge0.75O4 has been prepared at 1000 °C in air. This germanoferrite exhibits the real tridymite type structure—hexagonal cell, a = 5.38 Å, c = 8.92 Å—which is fully stuffed by K+ and Ba2+ cations. A combined X-ray and neutron powder diffraction Rietveld analysis gives evidence for a large…
Cu-0.78 mass%Si bicrystals are internally oxidized at various conditions and morphological evolution of amorphous SiO2 formed on a grain boundary (GB) is observed. After the reaction of Si atoms with oxygen, a film-like SiO2 phase with holes is initially formed on GB of Cu. At temperatures used for the internal oxidat…
Copper agglomeration in Cu(100 nm)/Ta(50 nm)/Si structure deposited by ion beam deposition was examined. Copper thin films were annealed at 650°C for 1 to 60 min in hydrogen atmosphere. The surface morphology, crystalline microstructure and electrical resistivity were investigated by field-emission scanning electron m…
The crystal (NH4)2CuCl4·2H2O and some related compounds have been subjected to the thermal (DSC), dielectric (in the frequency range 300 H2÷ 1 MH2) and ultrasound wave propagation studies, in the temperature range from 5 K to the dehydration temperature.
This paper reports a study of static and dynamic mechanical properties of electron beam (EB) cured polymer dispersed liquid crystals. These systems consist of micron-sized droplets dispersed in a solid polymer matrix. They are prepared according to the polymerization induced phase separation process initiated by expos…
Transparent ferromagnetic semiconductor Fe-Zn-O heterogranular films composed of wurtzite ZnO matrix and magnetite particles have been prepared by chemical deposition of film in aqueous solutions followed by heating at 773 K under vacuum. The Fe-Zn-O heterogranular films revealed ferromagnetic behaviors with Curie tem…
A ceramic material can be elongated extensively in tension above approximately half the absolute melting point provided it has a fine (<1 μm diameter) equiaxed grain size that is stable during deformation. The discovery of superplasticity in ZrO2-based ceramics triggered numerous research activities on ceramics superp…
The effect of direct exposure to UV-radiation on the migration of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) from unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (uPVC) pipes was investigated using locally manufactured pipes. Specimens 33-cm long were used throughout the research. The investigation was carried out, at different times of exposure…
Melt‐compounded composites of synthetic styrene‐co‐butadiene rubber (BUNA SL18) and silica particles (Silica VN3, Degussa) were characterized by wide‐angle and small‐angle x‐ray diffraction and stretching calorimetry. At low elongations, silica particles provided a considerably weaker reinforcement effect of the rubbe…
A fibrin-free intraocular lens (IOL) has been developed for hindering secondary cataract. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic micro-domains were alternately generated on the poly(methyl methacrylate) [PMMA] IOL surface with UV photon irradiation. The modified IOL was soaked in aqueous fibrin solution, and the fibrin adsorptio…
The effect of small amount of CoO addition on alkali oxide containing borosilicate glass ceramics has been discussed in order to see the influence on the crystalline phase constitution, microstructure and dielectric behavior. The glasses were crystallized in the temperature range 725–950°C. The lower crystallization t…
