水性塗料は塗装過程における揮発性有機化合物(VOC)の削減にきわめて有効であるが,媒体である水が揮発性や極性など特異な性質を示すため塗装作業性や耐水性などに大きな問題を生じさせる。水性塗料を構成する樹脂は一般的に有機物であるため水中で分散形態をとる。その結果,立体的な視点を加えた樹脂の設計や水の存在をうまく利用した架橋系の設計が可能となる。その反面,加水分解反応に起因する水性樹脂,とくにポリエステル樹脂の安定性には注意を払わなくてはならない。本稿では,各塗料分野における水性化動向に触れたのち,代表的な水性樹脂の設計や架橋系設計に必要な視点をわれわれの開発事例に基づいて述べた。

結晶性樹脂成形品の熱履歴を見積もる簡便な方法を提案した.材料の受けた熱履歴を,その履歴温度と経過時間を微分 DSC 曲線から見積もる方法で,結晶性高分子のポリブチレンテレフタレート(PBT)に対して良好な結果を得た.熱処理温度と時間に応じて,熱処理過程で形成した微結晶の融解に対応する吸熱ピークが DSC 昇温曲線に観察された.微分 DSC 曲線の立ち上がり温度は,ほとんど熱処理時間に影響されないが,そのピークトップ温度は熱処理時間に依存することから結晶性高分子の熱履歴解析に用いることができることが明らかになった.
