Comparison of liquid crystalline properties of dimeric compounds of different skeletal shapes

Woosung Bae、Jun-Woo Lee、Jung‐Il Jin2001-01-01Liquid Crystals

Series of dimeric compounds of different skeletal shapes consisting of two triad aromatic ester type mesogenic moieties connected via polymethylene spacers were synthesized and their liquid crystalline properties compared. The two mesogenic units are connected in either Hor T-shape or in linear fashion. In general, it…

Viviane Aranyos、Johan Hjelm、Anders Hagfeldt 等 4 位作者2001-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

A number of new ruthenium polypyridyl complexes with mono- or di-(3-methoxystyryl) substituted bipyridines have been synthesized. The complexes were characterised by NMR, elemental analysis, UV-vis absorption and emission spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Electroactive polymer films of these complexes have been pr…

Transition to 1D conduction with decreasing thickness of the crystals of TaS3 and NbSe3 quasi-1D conductors

S. V. Zaǐtsev-Zotov、V. Ya. Pokrovskiĭ、P. Monçeau2001-01-01Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics Letters

It is found that, with decreasing thickness of the crystals of TaS 3 and NbSe 3 quasi-1D conductors, the dependences of the conductivity of these crystals on temperature and electric field change from the form typical of bulk samples to a nearly power law behavior typical of 1D electron systems.

High frequency EPR investigations of gadolinium(III)-doped strontium aluminates

Takato Nakamura、K. Kaiya、N. Takahashi 等 8 位作者2001-01-01Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

The high frequency EPR spectra of SrAl2O4 doped with gadolinium(III) as a probe are discussed, focusing on the sites occupied by the lanthanides. This is because the emission due to europium(II) of SrAl2O4:Eu,Ln (Ln: lanthanides) is significantly affected by such substitution. The EPR spectrum of SrAl2O4:Dy,Gd showed…

Dielectric, structural and ferroelectric properties of strontium borate glasses containing nanocrystalline bismuth vanadate

N Prasad、K. B. R. Varma2001-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

Glasses of the composition (100 − x) SrB4O7 (SBO)−x Bi2VO5.5 (BiV) (0 ≤ x ≤ 70) were fabricated by the splat quenching technique. The evolution of nanocrystallization of bismuth vanadate in the system 50 SBO–50 BiV (in mol%) was accomplished via controlled heat-treatment (in the temperature range 470–820 K) of the as-…

Other factors contributing to the core loss performance of power and distribution transformers

E.G. teNyenhuis、R.S. Girgis、G.F. Mechler2001-01-01IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery

This paper presents results of analytical and experimental studies that give insight into the nature and mechanism of the generation of localized losses in the core joints, losses caused by core stacking-holes, and the increase of iron loss of the core material due to slitting. These three loss components alone have b…

Role of potassium added to Ce/NaZSM-5 catalyst in partial oxidation activity of benzyl alcohol

Nao Idaka、Satoru Nishiyama、Shigeru Tsuruya2001-01-01Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics

The vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of benzyl alcohol was carried out over cerium-impregnated NaZSM-5 (Ce/NaZSM-5) and K-added Ce/NaZSM-5 catalysts. The main products were benzaldehyde and carbon dioxide, together with trace amounts of benzene and toluene. The effect of the added K on the catalytic activity in the ben…

Transcrystallization of polypropylene on different modified jute fibers

Jochen Gassan、Ina Mildner、Andrzej K. Błędzki2001-01-01Composite Interfaces

This article deals with the transcrystallization of polypropylene on untreated, MAH-polypropylene grafted, and alkali treated jute fibers due to isothermal as well as non-isothermal crystallization conditions. In both cases, TCL-thickness as well as TCL growth initiation temperature were dependent on fiber treatment.…

Synthesis and electrochemistry of [Ru(2,2′-bpy)3]2[S2Mo18O62] at electrode–solvent (electrolyte) interfaces

Victoria M. Hultgren、Alan M. Bond、Anthony G. Wedd2001-01-01Journal of the Chemical Society Dalton Transactions

Addition of [Ru(bpy)3][PF6]2 to [(C6H13)4N]4[S2Mo18O62] in CH3CN resulted in the formation of analytically pure [Ru(bpy)3]2[S2Mo18O62]. Insolubility in CH3CN and solubility in DMF allow solid state and solution phase electrochemical data to be compared. Voltammetric studies of [Ru(bpy)3]2[S2Mo18O62] adhered to a glass…

Cation Capturing Ability and the Potential Response of a Poly(o-aminophenol) Film Electrode to Dissolved Ferric Ions

Jun Yano、Hiromi Kawakami、Sumio Yamasaki 等 4 位作者2001-01-01Journal of The Electrochemical Society

Poly( o -aminophenol) (PoAP) film was electrodeposited on an indium-tin oxide electrode. The PoAP film electrode captured dissolved cations such as Fe 3 + because of the coordination ability of the film. The cation capturing ability was confirmed by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the cyclic voltammograms of…

The fractal analysis of water trees: an estimate of the fractal dimension

M. Carmo Lança、J.N. Marat-Mendes、L. A. Dissado2001-01-01IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation

Water trees result from ac electrical aging of the polymeric insulation of medium and HV power cables in a humid or wet environment. As suggested by their name, they arise from penetration of water in the polymer. Visual observation with the help of an optical microscope shows tree (bush) type structures. This suggest…
