Elemental Lead by XPS
An XPS spectrum of elemental lead (Pb) is presented. The Pb foil was supplied commercially (Goodfellow Corp.) as a 0.1 mm thick specimen of quoted purity 99.95%. The BE range 1000–0 eV is documented.

The effects of the substitutions of Dy and Er for Sm on the crystal structure and magnetic properties of Sm/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/ and Sm/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/N/sub y/ compounds have been investigated. The structures of (Sm/sub 1-x/R/sub x/)/sub 2/ Fe/sub 17/N/sub y/ compounds with R=Dy and Er and the hosts change from Th/sub 2/…
Measurements have been made of the complex piezoelectric coefficient (d31), by a quasistatic method, so as to determine its real and imaginary components as a function of frequency (f = 10−3 - 103 Hz) and temperature. Results obtained with Ca-modified lead titanate and lead lanthanum titanate-zirconate ceramic samples…
Abstract The aim of this work is the study of the electrochemical behaviour and corrosion resistance of copper alloyed vacuum sintered stainless steel. The presence of copper can improve the passivability of sintered stainless steel and, as a consequence, the corrosion resistance; moreover, vacuum sintering allows mat…
Flight-performance modeling is conducted to compare the qualities of four radome materials in the light of three radome materials currently in use. The current radome materials are slip-cast fused silica, Rayceram 8, and Pyroceram 9606, and the ceramics tested for possible application are celsian, nitroxyceram, hot-pr…
A new representation of the crystal structure of complex betpakdalite reported in 1984 (R ≈ 0.08) reveals a remarkable case of . hccchhccch 10-layer anion (O2-)/void ( ) close-packing. The transformation matrix from earlier C12/m 1 cell to new F 2/m 11 cell is [010/100/102], new a = 11.10, b = 19.44, c = 22. 93 Å, α)…
A self-dual net is one that is identical to its dual. It is shown that some of the more commonly occurring binary and ternary intermetallic crystal structure types can be very simply described as a stacking of self-dual nets. Common structure types discussed include those of CrB , Cu2Sb (= PbClF ), BaAl4 (=ThCr2Si2) a…

Experience with electrical diagnostic and high-potential tests, performed at the terminals of unshielded cables in older nuclear and thermal plants is presented. The three basic types of cable-low- and high-voltage power cables, control cables and instrumentation cables-that are important to the reliable operation of…
Five different composite films of Polypropylene-Ceramic (both ferro- and antiferroelectric) materials were prepared by introducing fine grain ceramic powder in the matrix of polypropylene. The dielectric and charge storage properties of these composites were studied. The results show that an introduction of fine powde…
The role of hydrogen treatment before nitrogenation of Sm/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/ and the relation between nitrogenated conditions and nitrogen contents are examined. Many cracks occur in Sm/sub 2/Fe/sub 17/ particles during the hydrogenation process, and it is thought that hydrogen treatment increases the gas-solid reaction…
SUMMARY The influence of selective removal of organically bonded metals and organic matter on soil microstructure was investigated. Two samples of soils with different mineralogical, chemical and mechanical composition were treated with acetylacetone in both polar and non‐polar solvents to dissolve amorphous organic i…
High energy resolution XPS spectra of sputter cleaned Ni (2 keV, Ar+1) are presented. The experimental width (16%–84% measurement) of the Fermi level was 0.32 ± 0.02 eV. The energy scale calibration is based on the Fermi level.
The use of NaBH4 as a chemical reductant to precipitate copper from water has been studied. Initial Cu2+ concentrations of 25 and 40 mg/L have been checked, and complete removal can be achieved. When solid NaBH4 is fed, BH4 − to Cu2+ molar ratios higher than 2 were needed. This can be substantially improved by using N…
DC field measurements of lambda , d/sub 33/, k/sub 33/, and mu under uniaxial prestresses up to approximately 20 MPa have made on a 152-mm-long 6-mm-diameter grain-oriented rod of Tb/sub 0.3/Dy/sub 07/Fe/sub 1.95/ prepared by a free float zone technique. The lambda -vs.-H curve shows a negative dip at low fields which…
<div class="htmlview paragraph">An exhaust gas after-treatment system was developed to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions from a heavy duty diesel derived natural gas engine. The goal of the project was to reduce NOx emissions by 80% with a minimum ammonia slip and without negatively impacting other exhau…
A general description of the mutual orientation of two lattices is presented for the cases where the orientation is `rational'. The coincidence site and displacement-shift complete lattices are genuine lattices whose parameters can be explicitly evaluated through a method based on the Smith normal form for integer mat…
Abstract Sudoite occurs as a cryptocrystalline clay in some Visean K-bentonites from Belgium. Usually associated with illite-smectite mixed-layers, this chlorite has been found locally as a monomineralic clay component of a K-bentonite bed. The mineral has a composition close to (Al 3 Mg 2 )(Si 3 Al)O 10 (OH) 8 . The…
Abstract Cyanine dyes bound to α-helical poly(L-lysine·HBr) (PLL·HBr) in methanol provide extremely strong exciton couplings in CD spectra caused by their R-chiral dimer formation and that dyes-PLL complexes show varying degrees of remarkable strength change in the CD recognizing on their methylene numbers upon additi…
Emission and excitation spectra and luminescence decay times of the SrS:Sb 3+ and SrSe:Sb 3+ powder phosphors are studied over the temperature range from 2 to 372 K. The emission band at 293 K is located at 600 nm for SrS:Sb 2 S 3 (0.05 mol%) and at 633 nm for SrSe:Sb 2 S 3 (0.2 mol%). The excitation processes are att…
