Matrix Chain Deformation in Reinforced Networks: a SANS Approach

Stephan Westermann、M. Kreitschmann、Wim Pyckhout‐Hintzen 等 7 位作者1999-08-19Macromolecules

A small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) investigation of matrix chain deformation in an especially designed composite model system for a filled rubber−elastic network is presented. SANS experiments on the structure of polyisoprene homopolymer chains introduced into a well-microphase-separated triblock polyisoprene−pol…

An Efficient Chemical Kinetics Solver Using High Dimensional Model Representation

Jeffrey A. Shorter、Precila C. Ip、Herschel Rabitz1999-08-19The Journal of Physical Chemistry A

A high dimensional model representation (HDMR) technique is introduced to capture the input−output behavior of chemical kinetic models. The HDMR expresses the output chemical species concentrations as a rapidly convergent hierarchical correlated function expansion in the input variables. In this paper, the input varia…

Ring Formation in Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes

Richard Martel、Herbert Shea、Phaedon Avouris1999-08-19The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Nanotube rings were fabricated from straight single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) with yields exceeding 50%. The rings result from the folding of nanotubes onto themselves under ultrasonic irradiation to form coils with a narrow distribution of radii (300−400 nm). A simple continuum elastic model is used to discuss th…

Electric-Field Tuning of Spin-Dependent Exciton-Exciton Interactions in Coupled Quantum Wells

G. Aichmayr、M. Jetter、L. Vina 等 6 位作者1999-08-19arXiv

We have shown experimentally that an electric field decreases the energy separation between the two components of a dense spin-polarized exciton gas in a coupled double quantum well, from a maximum splitting of $\sim 4$ meV to zero, at a field of $\sim $35 kV/cm. This decrease, due to the field-induced deformation of…

Chiral Interactions and Structures

Randall D. Kamien1999-08-19arXiv

The chiral structure of liquid crystalline phases arises due to the intrinsic chirality of the constituent mesogens. While it is seemingly straightforward to quantify the macroscopic chirality by using, for instance, the cholesteric pitch or the optical rotatory power, it is not as simple to quantify the chirality of…

Preparation and Some Properties of a Phosphorus(V) Complex of Tetra-tert-butylphthalocyanine

Kuninobu Kasuga、Lin Liang、Makoto Handa 等 7 位作者1999-08-18Inorganic Chemistry

A phosphorus(V) complex of tetra-tert-butylphthalocyanine was prepared. The blue complex showed B and Q bands at 350 and 660 nm with a fluorescence peak at 680 nm in chloroform. In a CV, the complex showed three oxidative and three reductive waves. The following depicted here was tentatively proposed.

Hydrogen and Fluorine Adsorption on the h-BN (001) Plane

Björn Mårlid、Krister Larsson、J.‐O. Carlsson1999-08-18The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

The adsorption of H or F species on B vs N atoms on the h-BN (001) surface has been investigated theoretically within the DFT method, using a cluster approach. Only the boron atoms were subjected to a local transformation from hexagonal to cubic phase. It occurred either upon the adsorption of F species or the adsorpt…

Near-Infrared Surface Plasmon Resonance Measurements of Ultrathin Films. 2. Fourier Transform SPR Spectroscopy

Anthony G. Frutos、Stephen C. Weibel、Robert M. Corn1999-08-18Analytical Chemistry

The application of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) measurements to the study of ultrathin organic films adsorbed onto gold surfaces utilizing near-infrared (NIR) excitation from a Fourier transform (FT) spectrometer is described. The FT-SPR experiment measures the NIR reflectivity spectrum from a prism/gold film/water…

A Remarkable Family of Rhodium Acetonitrile Compounds Spanning Three Oxidation States and with Nuclearities Ranging from Mononuclear and Dinuclear to One-Dimensional Chains

Matthew E. Prater、Laura E. Pence、Rodolphe Clérac 等 9 位作者1999-08-18Journal of the American Chemical Society

A series of homoleptic cations of Rh(I,II), Rh(II), and Rh(III) have been synthesized and characterized in the solid-state and in solution. Three new dinuclear compounds of dirhodium(II,II) were prepared by treatment of Rh 2 (O 2 CCH 3 ) 4 (L) 2 with Et 3 OBF 4 or Me 3 Si(CF 3 SO 3 ) in acetonitrile or propionitrile.…

Molecular Nanowires of 1 nm Diameter from Capillary Filling of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Ching‐Hwa Kiang、Jong‐Suk Choi、Todd T. Tran 等 4 位作者1999-08-18The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

Molecular nanowires inside single-walled carbon nanotubes are produced by capillary filling. Bismuth was drawn into single-walled carbon nanotubes, where it formed single-crystal nanowires of nanometer dimensions. Metal was introduced in its gas, solution, and solid phases, with the solution phase process the most eff…
