Packed powder diffusion coating of pure aluminium after surface nanocrystallisation

Haiwei Chang、Mingxing Zhang2009-01-01International Journal of Surface Science and Engineering

Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment (SMAT) effectively activates the surface of pure Al and, therefore, lowers the subsequent Packed Powder Diffusion Coating (PPDC) treatment temperature from 600 °C to 560 °C. Although the nanocrystalline grains generated by SMAT in the top surface layer are coarsened during the su…

A physical vapour condensation method is used to synthesise the nanostructures of ZnO. These nanostructures are fabricated by resistive heating of Zn powder at a temperature of 400°C in the presence of oxygen and argon gases under a vacuum of order of 10−6 mbar. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) images sugges…

Preferential Fatigue Crack Nucleation at Deformation Twins in a Ferritic Stainless Steel

Tomoatsu Taniguchi、Yoshihisa KANEKO、Satoshi Hashimoto2009-01-01Journal of the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials

Crack nucleation along deformation twin boundary has been investigated in an Fe-20%Cr alloy. The deformation twins were introduced by compression test in liquid nitrogen. Push-pull fatigue tests on the twinned specimens were carried out at room temperature. Two kinds of cracks were detected in the vicinity of the twin…

Nanocrystal imaging using intense and ultrashort X-ray pulses

Carl Caleman、G. Huldt、Carlos Ortiz 等 8 位作者2009-01-01KTH Publication Database DiVA (KTH Royal Institute of Technology)

Structural studies of biological macromolecules are severely limited by radiation damage. Traditional crystallography curbs the effects of damage by spreading damage over many copies of the molecule of interest in the crystal. X-ray lasers offer an additional opportunity for limiting damage by out-running damage proce…

Giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) is fabricated by electromechanical transformation with large magnetostriction and an electro-mechanical coupling factor. Therefore, GMM can be use to make a giant magnetostrictive actuator. However, because the thermal expansion (linear expansion) coefficient of GMM is 12 ppm/°C,…
