Development and Characterization of Corrosion Resistant Coatings Using the Natural Biopolymer Chitosan

Girdhari Kumar、R. G. Buchheit2006-07-07ECS Transactions

In the present study, chitosan was used as the basis for corrosion resistant coating. Chitosan suffers from two inherent weaknesses as a coating material namely high hydrophilicity and poor adhesive strength with Al 2024 T3 alloy. In the present study, chitosan structure was modified using epoxy functional silane and…

Mixing A and B Homopolymers with AC Diblock Copolymers: Phase Behavior of Asymmetric Polymer Blends

Natalia A. Denesyuk、Gerhard Gompper2006-07-07Macromolecules

We use grand-canonical-ensemble self-consistent field theory to study blends of both moderately and strongly segregated homopolymers A and B with some diblock copolymer AC, where C is attracted to B. We derive an analytical condition for the Flory−Huggins interaction parameters, which describes a balanced copolymer su…

PhotoDSC has been applied to follow the global kinetics of chain scissions resulting from the UV light irradiation or from the thermal degradation of a high molecular weight PEO (4 x 10(6) g x mol(-1)). Infrared spectroscopy, XRD measurements and rheology experiments were performed to evidence the occurrence of chain…

Errors in the power loss measured in clockwise and anticlockwise rotational magnetisation. Part 2: Physical phenomena

Stan Zurek、T. Meydan2006-07-07IEE Proceedings - Science Measurement and Technology

The rotational power losses measured in the clockwise and anticlockwise directions differ noticeably. There are many factors that contribute to this difference, but these have not previously been explained in the literature. A discussion on the physical phenomena that contribute to the power loss along with the experi…

Oxo-acetato-bridged triruthenium cluster complexes ([Ru3(mu3-O)(mu-CH3CO2)6(L1)(L2)2](+/0)) show various color changes with variations of the total charge of the cluster complexes and terminal ligands. After photosensitized electron transfer via the triplet excited state of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin, the change of the…

Effect of Coulomb blockade on the low- and high-temperature resistance ofLa1−xMxMnO3(M=Sr,Ca)films

V. D. Okunev、R. Szymczak、M. Baran 等 5 位作者2006-07-07Physical Review B

The nature of low- and high-temperature anomalies in electrical properties of LaSr(Ca)MnO films with clusterized structure is investigated. Results concern the cluster sizes $D=100--150\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{\AA{}}$, in which charge quantization is of importance but quantum confinement does not yet have an…

Destruction of the Small Fermi Surfaces inNaxCoO2by Disorder

D. J. Singh、Deepa Kasinathan2006-07-07Physical Review Letters

We show using density functional calculations that the small e'g Fermi surfaces in NaxCoO2 are destroyed by Na disorder. This provides a means to resolve the prediction of these sections in band structure calculations with their nonobservation in angle resolved photoemission experiments.

Errors in the power loss measured in clockwise and anticlockwise rotational magnetisation. Part 1: Mathematical study

Stan Zurek、T. Meydan2006-07-07IEE Proceedings - Science Measurement and Technology

It is well known that the rotational power loss differs if the flux vector is rotated in either a clockwise or an anticlockwise rotation direction. An analysis is presented that shows that averaging the clockwise and anticlockwise values introduces an additive error that is dependent on the angular misalignment betwee…

Masashi Otsuki、Takao OGINO、Khalil Amine2006-07-07ECS Transactions

Phosphorous nitrogen compounds, so-called phosphazene, act as a novel flame-retardant additive for the electrolytes of lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries without hampering electrochemical performances. In particular partially fluorinated phosphazene compounds show excellent ability for safety usage of the Li-ion battery.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are used to investigate dimerization, by acid condensation, between Lindvist and Keggin cluster anions. When specific addendum atoms are present (notably, Ti, V, Nb, and Cr), these clusters dimerize in the presence of acid via the formation of mu-O linkages. These processes…

Surface Grafting Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) onto Poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) Films

Chun Zhang、Ning Luo、Douglas E. Hirt2006-07-07Langmuir

Two reaction schemes were developed to covalently graft poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains on poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) surfaces. The schemes involved surface grafting of linker molecules L-lysine or polypropyleneamine dendrimer (AM64), with subsequent covalent bonding of PEG chains to the linker molecules.…
