Frank Alexis、Eric M. Pridgen、Linda K. Molnar 等 4 位作者2008-08-01Molecular Pharmaceutics

Nanoparticle (NP) drug delivery systems (5-250 nm) have the potential to improve current disease therapies because of their ability to overcome multiple biological barriers and releasing a therapeutic load in the optimal dosage range. Rapid clearance of circulating nanoparticles during systemic delivery is a critical…

Asymmetric Magnetization Reversal in a Single Exchange-Biased Micro Bar

T. Gredig、M. Tondra2008-08-01arXiv

The asymmetric magnetization reversal is studied in a single exchange-biased microbar of 1.5 x 13 micrometer with anisotropic magnetoresistance and magnetic force microscopy. The particle has a moment of less than 10^-9 emu and is not accessible with standard magnetometry. The asymmetric hysteresis loop of CoFe/CrMnPt…

Charge-carrier induced barrier-height reduction at organic heterojunction

Sai‐Wing Tsang、M. W. Denhoff、Ye Tao 等 4 位作者2008-08-01Physical Review B

In order to provide an accurate theoretical description of current density--voltage $(J\text{\ensuremath{-}}V)$ characteristics of an organic heterojunction device over a wide range of electric fields at various temperatures, it is proposed that an accumulation of charge carrier at the heterojunction will lead to a re…

For the first time, the linear coefficient of radial thermal expansion is measured on a system of carbon single-walled nanotube (SWNT) bundles at low temperatures (2.2–120K). The measurements are performed using a dilatometer with a sensitivity of 2×10−9cm. A cylindrical sample 7mm high and 10mm in diameter was obtain…

Single crystals of SmFeAsO 1− x F y of a size up to 120 × 100 µm 2 have been grown from NaCl/KCl flux at a pressure of 30 kbar and temperature of 1350–1450 °C using the cubic anvil high-pressure technique. The superconducting transition temperature of the obtained single crystals varies between 45 and 53 K. Obtained c…

Dissipation characteristics of quantized spin waves in nano-scaled magnetic ring structures

H Schultheiss、C W Sandweg、B Obry 等 7 位作者2008-08-01Journal of Physics D Applied Physics

The spatial profiles and the dissipation characteristics of spin-wave quasi-eigenmodes are investigated in small magnetic Ni 81 Fe 19 ring structures using Brillouin light scattering microscopy. It is found that the decay constant of a mode decreases with increasing mode frequency.

Thermal orientation of electron spins

S. A. Tarasenko2008-08-01Semiconductors

It is shown that the spin orientation of free electrons occurs in low-symmetry semiconductor structures if the electron gas is driven out of thermal equilibrium with the crystal lattice. The proposed mechanism of such a thermal orientation of electron spins is based on spin dependence of the electron-phonon interactio…

Enhanced annealing, high Curie temperature, and low-voltage gating in (Ga,Mn)As: A surface oxide control study

K. Olejník、Man Hon Samuel Owen、V. Novák 等 7 位作者2008-08-01Physical Review B

Our x-ray photoemission, magnetization, and transport studies on surface-etched and annealed (Ga,Mn)As epilayers elucidate the key role of the surface oxide in controlling the outdiffusion of self-compensating interstitial Mn impurities. We achieved a dramatic reduction in annealing times necessary to optimize the epi…

Design and miniaturization of split ring structures based on an analytic solution of their resonance

S. T. Chui、Y. Zhang、Lei Zhou2008-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

We derived simple polynomial equations to determine the entire resonance spectra of split ring structures. For double stacking split rings made with flat wires, we showed that the resonance frequency depends linearly on the ring-ring separation. In particular, we found that the wavelength of the lowest resonance mode…

Polycrystalline Cu–Al–Mn shape memory alloys (SMAs) with a low degree of order of the β (L21) phase show excellent ductility and exhibit shape memory (SM) properties such as superelasticity, the one way memory effect and the two way memory effect based on martensitic transformation. These SM properties can be greatly…

We present the synthesis and characterization of novel, ultrasmall PbSe magic-sized nanoclusters (MSCs). Unlike the syntheses of high-quality semiconductor nanoparticles, the MSC synthesis is straightforward, occurring at room temperature in air over several hours. MSCs have core diameters <2 nm and fluoresce in the n…

Hardening-softening transition in Fe-doped Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 ceramics and evolution of the third harmonic of the polarization response

Maxim I. Morozov、Dragan Damjanović2008-08-01Journal of Applied Physics

It is shown that the phase angle of the third harmonic of polarization response (δ3) is very sensitive to the aging state of hard, Fe-doped lead zirconate titanate [Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 or PZT] ceramics and may thus provide rich information on processes responsible for aging in hard ferroelectrics. When hard PZT ceramics exper…

The Laser Ablation Production of Platinum Nitride and its Possible Structure

G. Soto、M. G. Moreno-Armenta2008-08-01arXiv

The synthesis of platinum nitride by the laser ablation method is reported. The spectroscopic results show that nitrogen is in interstitial sites of platinum as N-units, contradicting the accepted configuration for PtN2 where it is as N2-units. To elucidate this point we did density functional calculations to correlat…
