Live‐Cell‐Permeable Poly(p‐phenylene ethynylene)

Joong Ho Moon、W. Caleb McDaniel、Paul S. MacLean 等 4 位作者2007-09-21Angewandte Chemie International Edition

Light up my life: Stable, bright, conjugated-polymer nanoparticles (CPNs) show promise for fluorescence imaging of live cells. The cell-permeable CPNs are synthesized by a simple solvent exchange, and accumulate exclusively in the cytosol (see picture) without any noticeable inhibition of cell viability.

Zhengtao Deng、Yun Zhang、Jiachang Yue 等 5 位作者2007-09-21The Journal of Physical Chemistry B

One of the most highlighted and fastest moving interfaces of nanotechnology is the application of quantum dots (QDs) in biology. The unparalleled advantages of the size-tunable fluorescent emission and the simultaneous excitation at a single wavelength make QDs the great possibility for use in optical encoding detecti…

Core-Tetrasubstituted Naphthalene Diimides: Synthesis, Optical Properties, and Redox Characteristics

Cornelia Röger、Frank Würthner2007-09-21The Journal of Organic Chemistry

2,3,6,7-tetrabromonaphthalene dianhydride has been synthesized by the bromination of naphthalene dianhydride with dibromoisocyanuric acid in excellent yield. The condensation of this dianhydride with 2,6-diisopropylaniline yielded the corresponding tetrabromo-substituted naphthalene diimide (NDI), which is a versatile…

Biexciton Stability in Carbon Nanotubes

David Kammerlander、Deborah Prezzi、Guido Goldoni 等 5 位作者2007-09-21Physical Review Letters

We have applied the quantum Monte Carlo method and tight-binding modeling to calculate the binding energy of biexcitons in semiconductor carbon nanotubes for a wide range of diameters and chiralities. For typical nanotube diameters we find that biexciton binding energies are much larger than previously predicted from…

Electronic Structure of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Governed by Odd-Electrons Interaction

Elena F. Sheka、Leonid A. Chernozatonskii2007-09-21arXiv

For the first time, an approach is suggested for the quantitative description of the electronic structure of single-walled carbon nanotubes and the prediction of active sites for the tube controlled functionalization in view of the tube length and ends structure. The approach is based on the tube characteristic featur…

A succession of relaxor ferroelectric transitions coexisting with ferroelectric states in Ba_0.55Sr_0.45TiO_3

Satyendra Singh、Satendra Pal Singh、Dhananjai Pandey2007-09-21arXiv

We present here the results of frequency dependent dielectric, polarization and powder X-ray powder diffraction studies in the 300 to 100K temperature range for Ba_0.55Sr_0.45TiO_3. The dielectric results indicate a succession of three relaxor ferroelectric transitions accompanying the cubic to tetragonal to orthorhom…

On the magnetically driven ferroelectric phase in GdMnO3

J. L. Ribeiro2007-09-21arXiv

At room temperature, GdMnO3 is a paraelectric and paramagnetic with a distorted perovskite structure of orthorhombic symmetry (space group Pnma). On cooling, it undergoes a phase transition sequence to a magnetic incommensurate phase (k=delta a*; Tc1=42K) and a A-type antiferromagnetic phase (Tc2=27K). At low temperat…

How Moist Heat Kills Spores of Bacillus subtilis

William H. Coleman、De Chen、Yong-qing Li 等 5 位作者2007-09-21Journal of Bacteriology

Populations of Bacillus subtilis spores in which 90 to 99.9% of the spores had been killed by moist heat gave only two fractions on equilibrium density gradient centrifugation: a fraction comprised of less dense spores that had lost their dipicolinic acid (DPA), undergone significant protein denaturation, and were all…

First‐Principles Determination of Multicomponent Hydride Phase Diagrams: Application to the Li‐Mg‐N‐H System

Alireza Akbarzadeh、Vidvuds Ozoliņš、Chris Wolverton2007-09-21Advanced Materials

Complex solid-state hydrides can store hydrogen at very high volumetric and gravimetric densities. We present a theoretical framework, which automatically determines phase diagrams and thermodynamically favored hydrogen storage reactions in complex multicomponent systems, such as Li-Mg-N-H (see figure). This method ca…

Effect of Annealing on Upconversion Luminescence of ZnO:Er3+ Nanocrystals and High Thermal Sensitivity

Xin Wang、Xianggui Kong、Yi Yu 等 5 位作者2007-09-21The Journal of Physical Chemistry C

The effect of annealing on the upconversion luminescence of ZnO:Er 3+ nanocrystals was investigated in detail. The green and the red upconverted emissions under infrared 978-nm light excitation were remarkably enhanced with an increase of annealing temperature. Moreover, for the sample annealed at 500 °C, the ratio of…

Growth of Ultralong ZnO Nanowires on Silicon Substrates by Vapor Transport and Their Use as Recyclable Photocatalysts

Tz-Jun Kuo、Chun-Neng Lin、Chi-Liang Kuo 等 4 位作者2007-09-21OpenAlex

We report the growth of ultralong ZnO nanowires on silicon (100) substrates via the gold-catalyzed vapor transport approach. An ample supply of zinc vapor generated through carbothermal reduction of ZnO powder at 917 °C and a suitable amount of oxygen facilitate the rapid growth of nanowires. These ZnO nanowires are e…

The magnetic behaviour of well-dispersed monodisperse Fe3O4 nanoparticles with sizes varying between 6.6 and 17.8?nm prepared in a non-aqueous medium was investigated. The smaller nanocrystals exhibit superparamagnetism with the blocking temperatures increasing with the particle size, whereas the biggest particles are…
