Role of defect chemistry in the properties of perovskite manganites

Lorenzo Malavasi2008-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

This Feature Article provides some representative examples of the role of defect chemistry in the properties of perovskite manganites. It will be shown that a precise control of their defect chemistry is essential in order to give a reliable and meaningful correlation between physical properties and composition.

Preferred functionalization of metallic and small-diameter single walled carbon nanotubes via reductive alkylation

D. Wunderlich、Frank Hauke、Andreas Hirsch2008-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

A selectivity investigation of the covalent sidewall functionalization of SWNTs by reductive alkylation (Billups reaction) is reported. The functionalized tubes Rn-SWNT were characterized by UV-vis-nIR absorption, nIR emission and Raman spectroscopy. The reduction of SWNTs with sodium and the subsequent alkylation of…

Tunable red–green–blue fluorescent organogels on the basis of intermolecular energy transfer

Tianmin Shu、Junchen Wu、Min Lu 等 7 位作者2008-01-01Journal of Materials Chemistry

One or two-component gels with tunable emission colours were obtained from the assembly of three red–green–blue fluorescent molecules. The intermolecular energy transfer between these molecules played a crucial role in providing the tunable colour by a single excitation wavelength of 365 nm in the mixed gels. These ge…

Thermal activation of ferroelectric switching

Kok Boon Chong、F. Guiu、Michael J. Reece2008-01-01Journal of Applied Physics

By applying the theory of thermally activated nucleation to the switching of ferroelectric domains, a method is developed to experimentally obtain the value of both the activation enthalpy, ΔH, and activation volume, V*, for the thermally activated process involved in ferroelectric switching. The method was applied to…

Analysis of a force-based quasicontinuum approximation

Matthew Dobson、Mitchell Luskin2008-01-01ESAIM Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis

We analyze a force-based quasicontinuum approximation to a one-dimensional system of atoms that interact by a classical atomistic potential. This force-based quasicontinuum approximation can be derived as the modification of an energy-based quasicontinuum approximation by the addition of nonconservative forces to corr…

Phase-field modeling of microstructure evolutions in magnetic materials

Toshiyuki Koyama2008-01-01Science and Technology of Advanced Materials

Recently, the phase-field method has been extended and utilized across many fields of materials science. Since this method can incorporate, systematically, the effect of the coherency induced by lattice mismatch and the applied stress as well as the external electrical and magnetic fields, it has been applied to many…
