Power Enhancement of an Actively Controlled Battery/Ultracapacitor Hybrid

Lei Gao、Roger A. Dougal、S. Liu2005-01-01OpenAlex

An actively controlled battery/ultracapacitor hybrid has broad applications in pulse-operated power systems. A converter is used to actively control the power flow from a battery, to couple the battery to an ultracapacitor for power enhancement, and to deliver the power to a load efficiently. The experimental and simu…

DFT and experimental studies of the structure and vibrational spectra of curcumin

T. Kolev、Evelina Velcheva、Bistra A. Stamboliyska 等 4 位作者2005-01-01OpenAlex

Abstract The potential energy surface of curcumin [1,7‐bis(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methoxyphenyl)‐1,6‐heptadiene‐3,5‐dione] was explored with the DFT correlation functional B3LYP method using 6‐311G* basis. The single‐point calculations were performed at levels up to B3LYP/6‐311++G**//B3LYP/6‐311G*. All isomers were located and r…

PRINCIPLES OF MICROFLUIDIC ACTUATION BY MODULATION OF SURFACE STRESSES

Anton A. Darhuber、Sandra M. Troian2005-01-01OpenAlex

▪ Abstract Development and optimization of multifunctional devices for fluidic manipulation of films, drops, and bubbles require detailed understanding of interfacial phenomena and microhydrodynamic flows. Systems are distinguished by a large surface to volume ratio and flow at small Reynolds, capillary, and Bond numb…

Nanotechnology and Potential of Microorganisms

Debaditya Bhattacharya、Rajinder K. Gupta2005-01-01OpenAlex

There is a growing need to develop clean, nontoxic and environmentally friendly ("green chemistry") procedures for synthesis and assembly of nanoparticles. The use of biological organisms in this area is rapidly gaining importance due to its growing success and ease of formation of nanoparticles. Presently, the potent…

Mechanical properties of hybrid organic–inorganic materials

Fayna Mammeri、Éric Le Bourhis、Laurence Rozes 等 4 位作者2005-01-01OpenAlex

Homogeneously dispersed organic–inorganic hybrid nanocomposites can be obtained by increasing the interfacial interactions between both components via the formation of hydrogen bonds or covalent bonds, by mixing various polymers or via the adequate choice of the inorganic precursors. The mechanical response of these a…

Synthesis of replica mesostructures by the nanocasting strategy

Haifeng Yang、Dongyuan Zhao2005-01-01OpenAlex

Since mesoporous silicates (M41S) were first discovered in the early 1990s, organic–inorganic assembly combined with sol–gel processes by using surfactants as structure-directing agents had been considered to be the major pathway for creating mesoscaled periodic materials. However, unfortunately, many mesostructured m…

Sol–gel coatings for corrosion protection of metals

Mikhail L. Zheludkevich、Isabel M. Miranda Salvado、M.G.S. Ferreira2005-01-01OpenAlex

Sol–gel derived films exhibit a high potential as substitutes for the environmentally unfriendly chromate metal-surface pre-treatment methods. Inorganic sol–gel derived films offer good adhesion between metals and organic paint. However, they cannot provide adequate corrosion protection due to their high crack-forming…

Design and synthesis of Janus micro- and nanoparticles

Adeline Perro、Stéphane Reculusa、Serge Ravaine 等 5 位作者2005-01-01OpenAlex

Because the Roman god Janus was usually represented with two heads placed back to back, the term Janus is used for the description of particles whose surfaces of both hemispheres are different from a chemical point of view. So, they could be used as building blocks for supraparticular assemblies, as dual-functionalize…

On water repellency

Mathilde Callies、David Quéré2005-01-01OpenAlex

Water-repellency is a property of some materials, either natural or synthetic, which makes water hardly stick to them: drops roll very easily off these solids, and bounce back upon impacting them. Here we discuss recent advances in this field, which has been particularly lively in recent years. We first examine the ph…
